Abstract
Background: Diabetes mellitus is a complex disease that needs long-term treatment since it causes significant changes in each patient's physical and psychological aspects. Diabetes education is an essential component of therapy that enhances patient results.
Aim: To evaluate the general public's understanding of and attitude towards diabetes in the North-central Gujarat, Ahmedabad.
Settings and Design: Door-to-door population survey in the region of North-central Gujarat, Ahmedabad.
Materials and Methods: A 15-point questionnaire was created and the information was gathered and analysed to determine statistically the knowledge, attitude, and practice of the general population and diabetes population as well as to identify important demographic relationships.
Conclusion: A comprehensive survey on diabetes reveals a higher prevalence in males (55%) compared to females (45%). Age-related trends demonstrate fluctuating rates in the 40-60 age group, while the 60-80 age group exhibits a significantly higher incidence. Type 2 diabetes, often associated with life style factors, results from impaired insulin secretion or action. Effective diabetes management is crucial not only for immediate health benefits but also for mitigating the risk of long-term complications.
